ANOMALIE

Anomalie is the live electronic project of Nicolas Dupuis, a classically trained keyboardist and producer based in Montreal, QC.

Rising to worldwide fame after the release of his two EPs, Metropole Part I and II, Anomalie has developed a unique musical identity through an innovative combination of cutting edge electronic production, jazz and classical harmonies, and undeniably raw funk groove. His music has attracted fans worldwide, including modern musical heavyweights such as Charlie Puth, Chromeo, Thundercat, and Snarky Puppy.
By the end of 2018, he sold out his entire North America, European, and Asian tours alongside his intricate 4-piece live band and grew his online following in the millions across social media. And he’s achieved all of this as an independent artist. He’s currently working on his first full length LP, due to come out in 2022.

ANORAAK

We’re proud to welcome the newest member of the Juliet family, someone whose work we’ve been fans of for a long time: Anoraak. Based in Marseille, this French producer and multi-instrumentalist is a veteran of the New Disco scene, and the former drummer of Pony Pony Run Run. What is it about French people and elegantly crafted, perfectly pristine disco? It’s just that je-ne-sais-quoi, n’est-ce pas? Expect a bevy of classy dancefloor numbers from Anoraak in the coming months.

BYRON THE AQUARIUS, STEVEN KLAVIER & ROBERT PM

Birmingham, Alabama’s Byron the Aquarius is a jazz pianist turned electronic music producer, an avid collaborator with a love for harmony and groove that has drawn the attention of the scene’s leading labels and tastemakers. Steven Klavier was raised equally in the suburban church choir and the gay clubs of Downtown Philly; he now holds unique place at the heart of NYC’s nightlife, a party boy with an angelic voice. Robert PM is a 15-year veteran of Brooklyn’s dance music scene, known for his work with French Horn Rebellion. Between the three of them, Byron, Steven and Robert have released records on the finest of indie labels: Theo Parrish’s Sound Signatures, Jeff Mills’ Axis Records, Shall Not Fade, Anjuandeep, toucan sounds and Fool’s Gold. We at Juliet are proud to be added to the mix.

EDD

Malta might not be the first place you think of for DJs, and yet the island’s own Edd spent the last few years catching the ears house music’s elite cognoscenti, from Patrick Topping to Eats Everything and Hot Creations. For this inaugural Juliet EP however, Edd puts lush musicality and live instrumentation to the forefront, with guitars flourishes and sun-soaked keys throughout. Breezy vocals are juxtaposed and driving drums complement the package, in a decidedly modern approach. Are we officially entering a new school Acid Jazz era? “No Coffee Break” strongly suggests so.

IAN ISIAH

Ian Isiah is a bonafide NYC R&B sex idol. Raised in the heart of Brooklyn with a strong gospel stripe, he’s grown into the forefront of both fashion and LGBTQ movements.

Seen as a creative leader & magnetic muse of the Hood By Air brand, you can find him hymning in a church or on a street corner as often as you can hear him MCing one of NYC’s underground raves (Ghe20 G0th1k, the Telfar brand afterparties). Ian has loaned his talents elsewhere as well, branding and performing his special bag of tricks at events for Virgil Abloh + Nike, Helmut Lang, Adidas, Century 21, Colmar and many others over the years. Ian has toured with Blood Orange and is featured/singing all over the latest album Angel’s Pulse, as well as Hynes’ previous LPs Negro Swan, Freetown Sound, on top of appearances on records by Chromeo, Theophilus London and SSION. His Shugga Sextape Vol. 1 from 2018 took the music world by storm and featured looks in Vogue, The FADER, Pitchfork’s Rising and culminated in a performance at the 2019 Pornhub awards. Now with a new funk, R&B and silky soul-infused release on Chromeo’s Juliet Records, things are looking very exciting for the young rising star.

JULIEN GRANEL

There is a phrase that should never be pronounced in front of Julien Granel: “You can’t do it”.

The impossible tempts him, excites him. The challenge is his oxygen. Alone on stage, he improvises, dances like hell, expels and gives, he (re)lives. All it takes is one chorus for Julien to make any audience dance and sing. And when Julien Granel isn’t touring in France with his friend Maxence, he’s with Angèle, another friend, pouding the pavement during the Belgian singer’s Zenith tour. Music, dance, video, photography, fashion, contemporary art, he doesn’t snub anything, he’s interested in everything, like his latest collaboration with the designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He overflows, he devours, he pushes forward, again and again.

When Julien Granel was 13 he discovered Chromeo on the track “I Am Somebody” by DJ Mehdi feat. Chromeo off Ed Banger’s Ed Rec Vol 1 compilation. He listened to it on loop on the bus to school. 9 years later after his first EP “Bagarre Bagarre”, tours across Europe, a campaign with Christian Louboutin and 100,000 fans on Instagram, Julien, the king of colors and electro-pop, is releasing “Dress Code” on Chromeo’s label Juliet Records. “Dress Code” splices together French Touch 2.0 with funk & electro pop to execute the type of song we’re all craving.

KIINJO

Kiinjo is a new chapter in the career of Canadian superproducer Grandtheft, who cut his teeth during the halcyon days of Bloghaus zigzagging between LA and Montreal, DJing alongside the likes of DJ AM, Justice, MSTRKRFT and Boys Noize. Grandtheft topped the Hypemachine charts with disco-house bangers and then, as American Apparel deep Vs got discontinued and Four Loko got banned, he went on to release trap and bass music on a slew of seminal labels.

By 2021, it was time for Grandtheft to get his groove on again. Under the name Kiinjo, he blends all his musical experiences, past and present: the fun, the funky, the silly and the soulful. Kiinjo is a sultan of sampling and a luminary of loops, sometimes flipping snippets from his own previous rap beats. They’re sped up, chopped around and then layered onto house drums – an ode to the sounds of Armand Van Helden, Masters at Work and the French Touch movement, as well as an expression of unadulterated artistic freedom and pure ebullience.

Kiinjo’s first single, “Interplanetary”, came in the summer of 2022 on Never Worry Records. Fittingly, it’s the first time he used his own vocals on a track, and he enlisted long-time friend Hotel Garuda to bring this funky disco vision to life. Kiinjo’s second release is the two-sided single “Right Here” b/w “Lundi”, in collaboration with production legend and czar of sample packs Oliver. Chromeo took one listen and snagged it up immediately for their Juliet Records imprint.

“This is all new to me,” Kiinjo says, speaking via video-link from Amami, a small village just outside Osaka. “I had all this fun, fresh music bubbling up inside me, and now there’s an outlet for it. All I want to do is make people dance, move, have fun, and one day play in Ibiza. Maybe I’ll even bring back the V neck.”

LA BOIX

La Boix is Thee Mike B and Salva, two absolute legends of the LA scene linking up to make funky tunes. Thee Mike B has been the backbone of the DJ community for multiple decades, starting off in New York with Stretch Armstrong and migrating West with the help of DJ AM, running the legendary Banana Split party with the latter. Salva is one of the founding fathers of Trap music and has remained the hyper respected producer’s producer, working alongside artists like RL Grime, Kurupt, E-40, ScHoolboy Q, and more. For the La Boix project (pronounced like a distorted La Croix mixed with Les Boys), the pair is clearly having a good ol’ time, chopping up disco samples into micro bits and slamming some intergalactic synths over a kick drum.

ONYX COLLECTIVE

If Onyx Collective, the nebulous jazz ensemble whose name you may have overheard in downtown Manhattan at some point in the past couple years, seems elusive it is because they often are.

Onyx shows are unannounced, impromptu affairs: the group will perform in a basement, at a cocktail lounge atop a hotel, and to the street from a storefront all in the course of a week. The cast of performers is interchangeable, as is the kind of music that they play. Salsa and funk are fair game, in addition to the band’s own unique style of jazz. Though an often rotating cast, Barr and Austin Williamson (on drums) are regularly joined by Joshua Benitez on keyboard, Jack Guliemetti on guitar, Felix Pastorius and Spencer Murphy on electric bass, and Dean Torrey and Walter Stinson on upright bass, with Maxwell Deter providing most of Onyx Collective’s visual art. There is an additional group of artists who consistently orbit in and out of the Onyx universe. Nick Hakim, Princess Nokia, Julian Soto, Dev Hynes, Wiki, and other New York mainstays have performed with the band, and Onyx quietly features on a bevy of other artists’ records. Barr featured 3 times on the new David Byrne record, made a cameo in Ibeyi’s live band for their performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, toured as A$AP Rocky’s live band, opened for Thundercat, Kelsey Lu and more, and most recently worked with Chromeo on a new set of songs including fan-favorite “Baby.” A Chromeo & Onyx Collective-produced album, titled “Tango”, is set for release in 2022.

STEVEDREEZ

Stevedreez is the moniker of producer and songwriter Stephen Dries. Fueled by a longstanding love of 80’s culture and imagery, his self-produced, space-age blend of chillwave and pop transcends genres.

Steve has independently released two EPs Mirage (2019) and PINK SLIP (2020), all the while gradually building his discography through singles like STAY UP, DARLING and SMOKING SECTION, garnering over 5 million streams across all platforms. Whereas some artists choose extremes of extroverted vulgarity or introverted comfort, Dries’ music does neither. Instead, he takes you on an effortless, smoky ride through the intoxication of nostalgia.

TORIBIO

Toribio is a warm and gregarious presence in New York City’s rich club scene. Through his residency at The Lot and frequent appearances alongside the likes of Danny Krivit, Francois K, Love Injection, DJ Seinfeld, Eli Escobar & more, he’s built a loyal following that shares his love of soulful, percussive house music. The jazz-trained multi-instrumentalist has a special treat for his inaugural release on Juliet Records: a collaboration with his sister Sharing on vocals.

VENICE CLUB

Who the hell is Venice Club? Helmed by Maxime Garoute and Louis Sommer, Venice Club is an all-star collective of Parisian musicians, producers, songwriters and vocalists. Some you already know, others you may recognize if you listen closely. Lots of them played on your favorite records or with your favorite bands All of them share one obsession: the groove. Welcome to the French Funk Illuminati.
